Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is well-known to the Chinese people all over the world. Where there are Chinese people live in, where there are marks of Sun Yat-Sen. Especially in the cities that Sun had ever live in and fought for the modern revolution of China.

In Rua Silva Mendes, Macau, there is a three-floor mansion of Islamic style with a little garden beside, was Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's residence in Macau in the past. When you enter this house, it will tell you Sun Yat-Sen's story in Macau.

In Macau, there are two roads named after Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. They have the same name: Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. One in Macau Penisula and the other in Taipa. Both of them are in memory of him.

To Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Macau is the second home for him.

As early as twelvw years old, Sun Yat-Sen left his hometown and came to Macau, got on a ship to Honululu, USA, to receive the western education there. After five years, he return to China and enter a high school in Hong Kong. At that time, he stayed in Macau on his journey to Hong Kong, and that return his hometown, Xiangshan County (Today's Zhongshan, Guangdong, China). In 1887, when he was twenty-one, he entered the College of Medicine for Chinese, Hong Kong (The forerunner of Uniersity of Hong Kong) and began his university life. From then on, Macau became the place that he had meetings with his friends who cherished the same ideals and had a common goal. All they talked,all they thought and all they researched were about the revolution. They attacked malpractice of that period and shared their opinions of saving the nation without any slightest hesitancy. At that time, Dr. Sun's house was near the St. Lawrence's Church and the Lilau Square. He often went to the Mandarin's House and learned from Zheng Guanying.

Sun Yat-Sen entered the Kiang Wu Hospital and became the first Chinese doctor of Western medicine after he graduated from the Medical College. During his about-one-year life of medical practise, while healing the wounded and rescuring the dying, he became more and more enthusiastic in the cause of "Healing the nation" and began to seek the revolutionary truth and explore the ways to overthrow the Manchu Empire and to restore China to Chinese. When the time reached 1894, he left Macau for the overseas, and took his theories into action. From then on, Macau had become the place that he got togather with his comrades and avoided the pursue and capture of the Qing administration. Not only did Macau formed Dr. Sun's early theories of his revolution, but also set him to break the paths none have explored before.

Macanese will remember what Dr. Sun Yat-Sen did in their city as Chinese people all over the world. Today, they have transformed Dr. Sun's mansion into the memorial house for him. Most rooms there are being maintaines as they were in the old days. Dr. Sun's photographs as well as the furniture and surgical instruments he used are all exhibited in the mansion, from which his inner world will be learned by the visitors.

Many famous people had recorded their memories in Macau, which is a city assemble both Chinese and European culture. Zheng Guanying, a pioneering thinker and reformer who initiated the exploration of ideas of liberal democracy and science in modern China, was one of them.

In the alley by the side of the famous Lilau Square, a mansion of the building style of the south China, which has a history of one hundred and fifty years, stands there quietly, has a well-known name --- Mandarin House. Zheng Guanying's family had lived in this house for generations, and Zheng Guanying himself spent most of his life there.

Zheng's mansion has neither colourfully paintings nor luxurious decorations, which let us realize that its owner has a noble charaacter. This mansion has a great history, which mostly impressed the visiters --- Zheng's most famous work, Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity, a masterpiece that has an enormously powerful influence on modern Chinese society, was written in this house. At that time, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen had ever discuss the social affairs of that period with Zheng Guanying there.

It was July when I get there. When I arrived at the gate of the Mandarin House, I saw a notice of renovation there, and I did not see the living of the famous thinker. However, there was an exibition on Zheng Guanying at the Macau Museum.

In the museum, the tablets from the Mandarin House, and the writings, correspondence, accomplishments and historial artefacts of Zheng and his family, were all presented to the public. I realized Zheng's inner world and his thought process there.

An official named Zeng Guoquan had ever given Zheng a tablet written "Great Virtue Well Applied". Zheng set up many good habits for his posterities instead of colleted a good number of books ar earned a great deal of treasure for them. Learning from the pillar couplets which was in the Mandarin House before, I realized that Zheng had ever told his children to economize their outcomes and not to have too many lust.

Zheng had learned a lot and taken part in many social activities in his whole life. By his masterpiece, Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity, he had aroused passionate respenses from academics, politicians, economists, and even the military, and shaped the thinking of the famous people like Emperor Guangxu, Sun Yat-Sen and Mao Zedong, and the views of many other people. Zheng summed up his life-long experience in business and politics in one single eternal quote:"To resist foreign aggression, one must continuously strive to make progress; to continuously strive to make progress, one must first acquire wealth; to acquire wealth, one must first build up the education system, institute a Constitution, value morality, and improve governance."

Zheng Guanying had been recorded in the four hundred years' history of Macau, and the five thousand years' of China.

We can hear national anthems in all the national and international ceremonies, and we will all salute to them at that time. National anthems are the symbols of their countries. In the Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, and some other worldwide and regional competitions, national anthems are played very often. They are played when the atheles win the gold metals and the time before the team work matches like football and basketball.
